PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has intensified consultations with the tribal leadership to combat terrorism and establish lasting peace in the province, while a tribal Jirga is being held today at the Chief Minister’s House, Peshawar, under the leadership of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif, the Bajaur Jirga is the third jirga to be held in a series after Khyber and Orakzai, the aim of which is to formulate a joint strategy against terrorism and restore the confidence of the tribal people.
Barrister Saif said in his statement that detailed consultations will be held with tribal elders and other stakeholders in the jirga on the overall law and order situation. He said that holding these local jirgas after the All Parties Conference reflects the government’s determination that establishing peace in the province is the top priority.
He said that after all these local jirgas, a grand tribal jirga will be convened in which unanimous recommendations for establishing peace will be formulated and presented to the relevant institutions and forums.
The Information Advisor clarified that the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which comprise the border areas with Afghanistan, have been the most affected by terrorism; therefore, meaningful coordination with Afghanistan is the need of the hour.
Barrister Saif further said that the dream of peace cannot be realised without public cooperation; therefore, public participation and trust will be given fundamental status in all measures.
