PESHAWAR: Paying tributes to the Journalist community on the eve of World Press Freedom Day, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur said that the purpose of this day is to highlight the importance of independent journalism for strengthening democracy.
He said that journalists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are performing their duties despite extremely adverse conditions. He said that journalists have also made great sacrifices along with the people and forces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf fully believes on freedom of the press and always welcomes positive criticism from the media. “We salute the sacrifices of journalists who lost their lives while performing their duties in Peshawar and the tribal areas. He said that they would take steps to improve the situation in the light of positive criticism from the media, and journalists should also highlight the good initiatives of the government and public welfare activities. He went on to say that the media should pinpoint the weaknesses of the government, but must uphold the principles of responsible journalism. The welfare of journalists and solving their problems are among the top priorities of our government.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also paid tributes to journalists on World Press Freedom Day and said that the Pakistan People’s Party fully believes in freedom of the press and freedom of expression. He said that the journalist community always rendered sacrifices for the cause of this country, and they were targeted in various terrorist attacks while reporting on important issues to inform the public. He said that PPP government always supported the journalist community and will not leave them alone in the future as well.
