PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister CM Ali Amin Gandapur chaired a PTI parliamentary party meeting on Monday to discuss the worsening law and order situation in the province. The meeting concluded with unanimous decisions to address growing public concerns over military operations and civilian casualties.
Gandapur expressed grief over the recent martyrdom of innocent citizens in Bajaur, stating that such incidents are damaging public trust in security forces. “The loss of civilian lives in anti-terrorism operations is having negative effects,” he said, warning that this distrust is hindering the fight against terrorism.
The chief minister affirmed support for the decisions made at the recent All Parties Conference (APC) on security but stressed the need for policy revisions. “Security personnel are our heroes, but wrong policies are diminishing the value of their sacrifices,” he said.
To restore public confidence, Gandapur announced a series of local jirgas (tribal councils) in merged districts, culminating in a grand jirga within ten days. These gatherings will include tribal elders, elected representatives, and stakeholders to formulate a new peace strategy. The recommendations will then be presented to security officials for review.
Gandapur also criticized the “Action in Aid of Civil Power” policy, questioning its effectiveness. The provincial assembly will debate the issue in a session starting August 1.
In a strong message, the CM said, “This is our province, and no wrong decisions should be imposed on us without consultation.” He also directed deputy commissioners to seek approval from the Home Department before imposing curfews or Section 144.
