KP government directed to install emergency Siren system

PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the fragile security situation amid Pak-India tension, the Directorate of Civil Defence has decided to install an early warning system of sirens in various districts headquarters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

 

The installation of the emergency siren system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is an important step to safeguard public lives and property in case of any untoward situation. In this regard, 50’s modern electric sirens have been purchased and provided to Deputy Commissioners and Civil Defence Controllers across the province.

A letter issued by the Civil Defence Directorate said that the usefulness of the warning system has increased manifold in the current tense situation. The purpose of these sirens is to warn the public in time before enemy air strikes or any catastrophic situation to help them move to safe places.

The letter has directed all Civil Defence officers to accurately identify the locations of sirens, ensure their continuous monitoring and functionality. These sirens will be installed in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Kohat, Swat, DI Khan, Bannu, Malakand, Lower Dir, Chitral, Kurram, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Haripur, Mansehra, Hangu, Mohmand, Upper Dir, Shangla, Buner, Lakki Marwat, Khyber, Battagram, Tank, Orakzai, South and North Waziristan.

According to Civil Defence officials, Siren system will play an important role in timely informing citizens of potential threats and it would minimise the damages and losses in case of any emergency situation.
