PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi stated that protest is a constitutional and democratic right for every citizen. However, he expressed serious concern that political opponents are being targeted in the province, calling it regrettable and undemocratic.
Governor Kundi specifically raised strong objections to the registration of a police case (FIR) against the district president of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He criticized the use of armored vehicles for making arrests, stating it contradicts claims of the police being neutral and apolitical.
Kundi suggested that the provincial government has become “panicked” following the PPP’s successful protest on May 26th and is now resorting to “political revenge.” He accused the police of failing to establish peace and instead suppressing public representatives.
The Governor also alleged unfair practices in Dera Ismail Khan, claiming shops and houses of the poor are being demolished while the farmhouses of ruling politicians remain untouched. He labeled this a clear “double standard” that is unacceptable.
Kundi warned that “injustice and excesses will definitely be taken to account.” He further claimed the province has been left “at the mercy of terrorists,” describing this as a reflection of a dangerous situation
