academic year

PESHAWAR: Bringing reforms in the education system, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has directed to revise the academic year into Spring and Fall Semesters in the summer and winter zones of the province.

Initially, this system will be applied to classes from nursery to class VIII. The academic year in the summer zone will start from September 1. The Fall Semester in the summer zone will be from September 1 to December 31 and the Spring Semester from January 16 to May 31.

The academic year in the winter zone will start on the first day of March. The Spring Semester in the winter zone will be from March 01 to June 30. And the Fall Semester from August 1 to December 22. There will be separate examinations for each semester and equal importance will be given to the examinations of both semesters in the preparation of the final results. Under the new system, it is proposed to print textbooks in two parts for both semesters to reduce the burden of books on children.

The vacation schedule in the summer and winter zones will remain the same with minor changes. However, these vacations will be used for effective admission campaigns in both zones, distribution and delivery of free books, training of teachers, summer and winter camps for students and technical training programs for students, etc.

Separate academic years for winter and summer zones have been made in view of the climatic conditions of these areas. Separate academic years for different zones will provide ample opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities and receive technical training. The implementation of separate academic years will ensure better and more efficient use of government resources.
