First drug rehabilitation center opens in Peshawar jail

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP government has set up a first-ever drug rehabilitation center in Peshawar Jail on the orders of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Officials said a full block of the jail has been dedicated to treating drug addicts. Currently, 40 patients are undergoing a three-month rehabilitation program.

The center provides a clean environment, sports activities, exercise, Islamic teachings, and an open-air gym to support patients’ physical and mental recovery.

Under the “Drug-Free Peshawar” campaign, over 3,800 addicts have been treated so far. The CM also announced Rs. 50,000 in financial aid, skills training, and jobs for recovered patients. Treatment is also available free of cost under the Sehat Card Plus program.
