PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a safe city project to make the divisional headquarters of the province security foolproof.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the multimillion-rupee project was signed between the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) and KP police here on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the KP government said that the project is segregated into two phases, while the first phase will be completed in six months, with a cost of R2.2 billion.
The purpose of the project is to make all divisional headquarters, including the provincial capital Peshawar and other sensitive areas, secure.
The Chief Minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, was also present at the agreement signing ceremony. Under the project, 710 CCTV cameras would be installed at 25 different locations in the city.
The statement noted that in the second of the project, 600 security cameras are under plan with the cost of Rs 5 billion, and this phase will be completed in one year. As per pla all process will be legitimised through relevant forums.

It said the project would be initiated in DI Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Karak, Mardan, Swat, Kohat and Abbottabad in the second phase.
The statement said the sensitive areas of the divisional headquarters of KP would be monitored through a system in which artificial intelligence would also be used.
It said a legislation would also be enacted to maintain peace in the provincial areas, besides equipping the KP police with modern technology under this project.
All commercial projects in these areas will be linked to this safe city.
