KP govt takes key steps to prevent animal diseases during Eid-ul-Adha

PESHAWAR: To prevent animal infectious disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the KP Livestock department took key precautionary measures and availability of medicines.

In this connection, an important meeting of the Livestock Department was held in the Civil Secretariat, Peshawar. The meeting was chaired by Fazal Hakeem Khan, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries. Secretary of Livestock and other relevant officers of the department attended the meeting. The Minister underlines the need for a proper mechanism for the movement of the animals from one place to another and directs the relevant staff to make all important medicines for infectious diseases available in clinics and veterinary centres.

The meeting was attended by Member Provincial Assembly Sutan Rum Khan, Secretary Livestock Fisheries and Cooperatives Tahir Orakzai, Director General Livestock Extension Dr. Asl Khan, Director General Livestock Research Dr. Ijaz Ali, Director Research Khusroklim and other relevant officials of the Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Department. Important decisions were taken in the meeting to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among animals on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Provincial Minister Fazal Hakeem Khan Yousafzai issued instructions that the leaves of all relevant veterinary staff should be immediately cancelled until Eid-ul-Adha. While all district officers and staff should be required to remain in the field until Eid, and ensure that precautionary measures are taken. Check posts should be established near inter-provincial, inter-district borders and animal markets, where strict monitoring of animal movement should be ensured along with the spraying of these animals with disinfectants to prevent the spread of any virus or disease.

Along with this, timely diagnosis, treatment and vaccination of diseases should be ensured by setting up veterinary camps in areas and markets with a large number of animals. Provincial Minister for Livestock Fazal Hakim directed that the Divisional Commissioner and the law enforcement agency should send letters to the Livestock Department for cooperation. Provincial Minister for Livestock Fazal Hakim emphasised in the meeting that the large-scale movement of animals on Eid-ul-Adha poses a risk of spreading epidemic diseases. Our government is giving top priority to public health.  Additional measures to prevent diseases include public awareness campaigns, improvement of sanitation arrangements, and immediate reporting of suspected cases, and special monitoring will be done to ensure implementation of all measures.
