PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to commence work on the Peshawar Safe City project following Eid, with plans to install 700 surveillance cameras at 100 key locations across the provincial capital.

According to police officials, the initiative aims to enhance security and monitoring in the city, with practical implementation expected to begin in the coming days. The first phase will focus on Peshawar, while the second phase will extend the Safe City project to southern districts, including Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan, where preparatory work has already been completed.

Authorities stated that the project is a critical step toward improving law enforcement capabilities through advanced technology. Once operational, the surveillance system will aid in crime prevention, traffic management, and emergency response.

The Safe City initiative aligns with the provincial government’s broader strategy to bolster security infrastructure across KP, with similar projects likely to be introduced in other major cities in the future.
