KP govt to outsource 1,500 schools, 57 colleges, 58 hospitals: Chief Secretary

The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Shahab Ali Shah, has said that 1,500 low-performing schools, 57 colleges and 58 Type-D hospitals are being outsourced in the province.

An important meeting took place in Peshawar, chaired by the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah. The meeting reviewed reform measures, timelines, and implementation strategies across various sectors, including education, health, social welfare, higher education, and tourism, as outlined in the Good Governance Roadmap.

It was reported during the meeting that the elementary and secondary education department is in the process of outsourcing 1,500 underperforming government schools to the private sector to enhance their performance. In addition, targets have been established to organise four provincial sports competitions throughout the year, provide complete furniture and infrastructure in schools, and ensure 90% teacher attendance.

The Education Monitoring Authority is responsible for overseeing the implementation of these reforms. Under the Social Welfare Department’s roadmap, efforts are underway to strengthen the seven Darul Aman centres in the province. This includes purchasing new equipment and enhancing staff capabilities to provide better facilities for women seeking refuge there. Furthermore, plans are in progress to establish 121 modern industrial training centres, along with rehabilitating and improving 15 special educational institutions to better serve children with special needs.

In the higher education sector, it has been decided to outsource 57 underperforming government colleges to the private sector to improve educational quality. Health department officials stated that 58 Type D hospitals across the province will also be outsourced to enhance healthcare facilities in remote areas. Moreover, a biometric attendance system for doctors, midwives, and paramedics will be fully operational by the end of this month.

The meeting also highlighted several significant initiatives within the tourism department’s roadmap, including making Rescue 1122 ambulances available at tourist destinations, implementing effective waste management and sewage systems, establishing a dashboard for monitoring tourist traffic, restoring historical sites, providing audio guides for these sites, and engaging Vloggers to promote tourism on social media.

Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah praised the performance of all departments and emphasised the importance of ongoing, detailed reviews in every sector to achieve the goals set out in the Good Governance Roadmap. He stated that the Chief Secretary’s and Chief Minister’s Offices are actively monitoring the implementation of these governance measures to ensure timely development that directly benefits the public.
