The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has issued a strong rebuttal to media reports suggesting the imposition of a “dengue emergency” in various districts of the province, including Peshawar, Charsadda, and Abbottabad.
In an official statement released on Friday, the department clarified that no notification regarding a dengue emergency has been issued, and the current situation remains under control. The department termed the reports as misleading and said they were causing unnecessary panic among the public.
According to the department’s verified data, as of August 21, 2025, a total of 398 laboratory-confirmed dengue cases have been reported across the province. Of these, 308 patients have recovered, while only 90 cases remain active. In the past 24 hours alone, 82 new cases were recorded.
The department further stated that only 44 patients are currently under treatment in three hospitals, including DHQ Charsadda 38 patients, Qazi Medical Complex, Nowshera 3 patients and King Abdullah Hospital Mansehra 3 patients. Officials emphasised that the situation is being closely monitored and that comprehensive surveillance and treatment protocols are in place across all districts. The department urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to avoid spreading unverified news . Citizens were advised to take preventive measures such as avoiding stagnant water, using mosquito nets, and seeking medical attention in case of fever or other symptoms.“The health and safety of the public is our top priority,” the statement read. “We are actively coordinating across districts to ensure timely treatment and effective monitoring.”
