PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Commissioner, Farah Hamid Khan, has warned the public bodies of the province of strict disciplinary action for not providing information to citizens within the set time.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission had summoned the Public Information Officers of the institutions for a personal hearing on the complaint of citizens. Additional Assistant Commissioner Karak, DSP Karak, and District Officer for Soil Conservation of Lakki Marwat appeared before the commission.

Public Information Officers of various institutions were summoned for a hearing on the complaints of citizens in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission. In three different complaints of citizens against the DC Office Karak (in which a citizen named Saima Akhtar had sought land records, Azhar Mumtaz had sought a copy of the minutes of the DPC meeting regarding promotions and recruitment, while a citizen named Muhammadullah had sought details of domestic and agricultural solar systems and their beneficiaries in constituency PK-98), the Additional Assistant Commissioner Karak appeared before the commission. The Commission issued orders to Additional Assistant Commissioner Karak to send a copy of the minutes of the DPC meeting to the Commission within 4 days and provide information related to the solar system to the citizen within 7 days, failing which disciplinary action would be initiated against the said officer under the RTI Act.

In addition, in the case of a citizen belonging to Karak (in which he had sought an inquiry report and other information from DPO Karak), DSP Karak submitted a copy of the inquiry report to the Commission for inspection, while for the remaining information, he sought 7 days from the Commission.

Chief Information Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Farah Hamid Khan said that access to information is the fundamental right of every citizen. Action will be taken against any institution that does not provide information to the citizens within the rule timeframe.
