PESHAWAR: In a landmark step toward institutional reform and public service excellence, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has launched a comprehensive Good Governance Roadmap aimed at establishing a transparent, efficient, and citizen-focused administrative framework. The ambitious initiative is backed by an allocation exceeding Rs. 7 billion—specifically Rs. 6.99 billion—and outlines clear goals and deadlines for every government department to ensure effective policy implementation.
This roadmap marks a shift from conventional policy announcements to a more practical, action-oriented governance model. By setting department-specific performance targets with defined timelines, the provincial government aims to foster a results-driven administrative culture that emphasizes efficiency, accountability, and improved service delivery for the people.
According to official sources, the health sector has received the highest allocation, with Rs. 2.84 billion set aside to strengthen healthcare services and infrastructure across the province. The industrial and mineral development sectors have each been granted Rs. 700 million, reflecting the government’s focus on economic growth through resource management and industrial expansion. Agriculture, a key pillar of the provincial economy, has been allocated Rs. 500 million to support modernization and sustainability efforts.
Further allocations include Rs. 450 million for local government and higher education, aimed at enhancing governance at the grassroots level and strengthening academic institutions. Rs. 300 million has been earmarked for communication and public works, while social welfare initiatives will receive Rs. 250 million. Sectors like primary education and tourism have been allocated Rs. 150 million each, and the housing sector has been granted Rs. 100 million.
However, the roadmap is not just about financial commitments. The government is also establishing a dedicated Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to oversee implementation, ensure transparency, and track progress. This unit will play a central role in assessing departmental performance and enforcing accountability, ensuring that public funds are used effectively and objectives are met on schedule.
Senior officials have stressed that this roadmap is a practical tool for transformation, not just a policy document. It reflects a firm commitment to building a governance system where public service is guided by measurable performance, and where inefficiency or negligence is no longer tolerated. Departments will be held accountable for meeting their targets, and regular evaluations will guide continuous improvements.
This initiative is widely seen as a significant step toward building trust between citizens and the government. By prioritizing transparency, performance, and public welfare, the roadmap is expected to reshape governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and set an example for other provinces. If successfully implemented, it could mark a turning point in how public services are delivered and how governance is experienced at the grassroots level across Pakistan.
