Peshawar: In a major shake-up within the Peshawar Police, eight officials, including six Station House Officers (SHOs), have been suspended over allegations of corruption and connections with criminal elements, according to an official spokesperson.

The suspended officials include the in-charges of Pahari Pura, Faqirabad, Hashtnagari, Pushtkhara, Gharbi, Khazana, and Jahangirabad police stations, as well as a junior clerk. The action follows numerous public complaints and is part of a broader crackdown on misconduct within the force.

In addition to the suspensions, strict warning notices have been issued to six Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) for poor performance and supervision. The affected officers include the DSPs of Pushtkhara Circle, Town Circle, Faqirabad Circle, Hashtnagari Circle, Gulbahar Circle, and Regi Circle.

Furthermore, show-cause notices have also been served to 11 other SHOs for underperformance. These include officers from Tatara, Hayatabad, Sharqi, Gulberg, Sarband, Kotwali, Bhanamari, Daudzai, Chamkani, Mathra, and Badhaber police stations.

An internal inquiry has been initiated against all suspended officials, and disciplinary actions are expected based on the findings. The crackdown comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of crime and corruption in the provincial capital.

Police officials have reiterated their commitment to internal accountability and restoring public trust in law enforcement across Peshawar.
