PESHAWAR: Electricity consumers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country are worried about not receiving full relief in head of electricity bills under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package.
The consumer will not get full relief from the reduction announced by the government in June under the relief package to make electricity cheaper by Rs 7.41 per unit and the total relief for electricity consumers in the month of June is likely to be reduced to Rs 4.79 per unit. Currently, electricity consumers are getting a relief of Rs 6.35 per unit under the Prime Minister’s Package.
Last month, electricity consumers were given a relief of Rs 4.97 per unit in April. It has been reported that there is a fear that the relief given to electricity consumers under the Prime Minister’s Affordable Electricity Package next month will decrease compared to the current month, however, the reduction in relief will be subject to the increase in the monthly adjustment of April by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) as per the request of the Central Purchasing Power Agency (CPPA) and its implementation in June.
Sources in the report say that the relief of 29 paise per unit reduction in the March monthly adjustment will end this month. In the April adjustment, CPPA has sought an increase of one rupee 27 paise per unit. NEPRA reserved its decision after hearing the request for an increase in the price of electricity yesterday.
The application of the reduction in the price of electricity in the second and third quarter adjustments of the current financial year is expected to remain in June. It has been learned that a relief of 1.90 PKR per unit reduction is being given in the second quarter of the current financial year, and 1.55 PKR per unit reduction in the third quarter of the current financial year.
The relief of 1.71 PKR per unit reduction in the petroleum levy may also remain in June, while the reduction of 0.90 PKR per unit in the retained FCA will also remain in June.
