PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati has submitted his response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Accountability Committee regarding allegations of irregularities in recruitment and promotions within the assembly.

According to sources, the PTI’s internal accountability body is reviewing the allegations, and if corruption is proven, the party may demand the speaker’s resignation. Should he refuse, a no-confidence motion could be tabled against him.

Insiders revealed that KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been tasked with mediating between Speaker Swati and senior PTI leader Azam Khan Swati. If the speaker is cleared of wrongdoing, efforts will be made to reconcile the two leaders. However, if irregularities are confirmed, he will be given time to rectify the decisions and reverse any unlawful appointments.

The allegations pertain to alleged favoritism in hiring and promotions within the provincial assembly. Speaker Swati has denied any wrongdoing and submitted his defense to the committee for review.
