‘KP to switch schools to Solar power’, says Minister

 

PESHAWAR: Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Khan Tarakai on Tuesday said that a plan has been formulated to transfer all government schools in the province to solar energy by signing an agreement with the Bank of Khyber.

In addition, an e-transfer policy has been implemented in the province, under which teacher transfers would be done online only during holidays.

He expressed these views while organizing a special session with the education Beat journalists titled “Meet and Greet”, in which key reforms carried out during the past year and plans were highlighted.

On this occasion, the Education Minister mentioned in detail the reforms carried out to improve the quality of education in the province, including the education card, Public-Private Partnership, Rented Building Program, Second Shift Schools, Teacher Induction Program, and increase in scholarships.

He announced that the shortage of teaching staff would be met by recruiting 16,240 new teachers, while the number of ETA scholarships has been increased to 506 and financial assistance is being provided to seven thousand children under the Rehmatul-ul-Alameen scholarship.

Expressing his determination for further improvement in the field of education, Faisal Khan Tarakai said, “We will bring about a clear reduction in the number of out-of-school children in the province. For this, a full-fledged admission campaign will be launched with the cooperation of the media, civil society and teachers.”

Appreciating the positive role of the media, he said, “Journalists play an important role in providing accurate information to the public and creating awareness about educational policies.” He answered the questions of the journalists and assured them to include their suggestions in policy making.

A question and answer session was also held during the event, in which journalists presented various suggestions for improving the education system. The Education Minister emphasized that “our goal is to ensure access to quality education for every child in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and all possible steps will be taken for this.”
