KP tourism dept sets up flood emergency response unit amid monsoon alerts

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, and Museums Department has established a Flood Emergency Response Unit in tourist areas. This move comes under the directives of Zahid Chanzeb, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Tourism and Culture, in anticipation of monsoon rains and strong winds.

The decision was made following a Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast predicting a new wave of rain and winds in upper areas starting July 21. The emergency unit has been set up in Peshawar, Hazara, and Malakand divisions to effectively manage any emergency.

The Secretary of Tourism has also appointed focal persons for various districts across the province and has ordered the immediate cancellation of all relevant staff holidays. Staff have been called back to duty without delay for effective rescue and coordination efforts. Instructions have also been issued to ensure the deployment of tourist police and helpline services. Tourists can contact 1422 from anywhere for information and government assistance. An official announcement regarding the cancellation of holidays for staff of the Tourism Department and other authorities has also been issued.
