Lahore ATC acquits Qureshi in 2 more May 9 cases; convicts Dr Yasmin, Ejaz Chaudhry and others

The Anti-Terrorism Court has issued its verdict in two significant cases related to the May 9 tragedy. Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was acquitted in both cases, while Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood-ul-Rasheed, and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Anti-Terrorism Court has issued its verdict in two significant cases related to the May 9 tragedy. Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was acquitted in both cases, while Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood-ul-Rasheed, and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The ruling was delivered by Judge Manzar Ali Gul of the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the hearing was conducted.

The trial concerning 19 individuals accused of committing arson and setting police vehicles on fire, as recorded in a case filed at the Shadman police station, has concluded. Those named in this case include Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood-ul-Rasheed, Sanam Javed, and Alia Hamza.

In total, 41 people are accused in this case, of which 15 have been declared proclaimed offenders. Six individuals are currently in custody, and one accused has passed away. The charges against them include various sections related to terrorism.

The second case involves allegations of setting fire to government and private vehicles outside a bakery. In this case, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmood-ul-Rasheed, Alia Hamza, and Sanam Javed are also named as defendants.

A total of 25 individuals are accused in the vehicle burning case, with 7 declared as proclaimed offenders. The trial of 12 individuals has been completed, while 5 remain in custody, and one suspect has also passed away.
