LAHORE: Police have announced the arrest of Shah Rez Azim, a key suspect wanted in connection with the violent incidents that occurred on May 9.
According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Investigation Lahore, Azim was actively involved in anti-state activities and was wanted in multiple cases. The police allege that he, along with several others, played a direct role in acts of arson and damaging government property during the riots.
The DIG stated that Azim, who is also reported to be the Aleema Khan son, will be presented in court today. He emphasized that strict legal action is underway against all individuals involved in the May 9 events and that no concessions will be granted to those accused of anti-state activities.
In response to the arrest, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser was quoted as saying, “Allah has delay, not darkness,” claiming the verdict has proven all such cases to be invalid. Law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations to arrest more accused individuals.
