KHYBER: Residents of Landi Kotal have appealed to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to take notice of the poor condition of the government Primary School Charbagh Landikotal and release urgent funds for the early completion of this only educational institute of the area.
Talking to Pakhtun Digital, they said that this school was built for children from class KG to fifth grade, but there is only one room for all five classes, and that too is in very poor condition. Parents and students said that one room is also in a fragile condition, and there is imminent danger of its collapse.
Students studying in the school, Shah Fahad, Muhammad Yar and Shifa, said that there is no water or electricity. According to them, they are forced to bring water from home. They said that while taking classes in summer, they are facing a lack of fans and electricity in the scorching heat.
They said that during rainy days, children are forced to get wet under the open sky due to a lack of shelter. Locals said that the provincial government is not promoting education at every forum despite their tall claims.
They said that Charbagh School is a clear example of the poor plight of educational rights to children in the area. A local person said that we want our children to get an education, but due to the poor condition of the school, they are always worried about the children.
They demanded that the government must prioritise the construction of these schools, as students sometimes miss their classes in the rainy season. It should be remembered that six members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been elected from Khyber district, but despite this, no steps have been taken yet regarding the dilapidated condition of the school.
Local people are raising questions about whether the public representatives will ignore the educational institutions of their area, and to what extent the claims of development are true.
