In global markets, gold prices softened after US President Donald Trump set a July 9 deadline for a trade agreement with the European Union, stepping back from an earlier threat of imposing a 50% tariff starting June 1. As of 0312 GMT, spot gold was down 0.3% at $3,346.59 per ounce, while US gold futures slipped 0.6% to $3,345.70.

On the inflation front, Pakistan’s short-term inflation dipped slightly for the week ending May 29. The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) showed a week-on-week decline of 0.81%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), although it registered a slight year-on-year increase of 0.41%.

The weekly drop was largely attributed to a 10.10% decrease in electricity charges and an 8.51% fall in chicken prices. LPG prices declined by 2.67%, while slight reductions were also recorded in items such as powdered milk, vegetable ghee, wheat flour, sugar, garlic, and some pulses. Of the 51 items monitored, 14 saw price increases, 10 decreased, and 27 remained stable.
