AI 'Girlfriend' Swindles Chinese Man Out of Nearly $28,000

In Shanghai, a man lost $28,000 to fraudsters who used AI to create a fake girlfriend named “Miss Jiao.”

The scammers sent AI-generated photos, videos, and fake documents to convince him she needed money for business and medical expenses.

After transferring the funds, the victim realized he was scammed and contacted police, who uncovered a team behind the AI-generated persona.

In a similar case, a 53-year-old French woman, Anne, lost nearly €1 million after falling for an online romance scam involving an AI-generated version of Brad Pitt.

The fraudster, posing as the actor, sent fake photos and videos, claiming he needed money for medical treatment due to a blocked bank account.

Anne only realized the scam after seeing Brad Pitt with his real girlfriend in the news. She is now undergoing treatment for severe depression.

These incidents highlight the growing use of AI in sophisticated online fraud schemes.
