Matric exams begin today amid tight measures in KP

PESHAWAR: Annual matriculation exams have started across the province, including Peshawar. Over 919,000 male and female students are appearing in the exams under the eight boards.

Out of these, 475,000 are ninth-grade students and 444,000 are tenth-grade students.

Authorities have set up 3,634 exam centers. According to the Education Department, a total of 25,810 invigilators are deployed for duty. Moreover, CCTV cameras have been installed in all centers to prevent cheating.

The Education Department said in a statement that the government has enforced Section 144 around exam centers for security and to stop cheating.

Education Minister Faisal Tarakai told the media that private school halls across all eight boards have been merged. Police and other institutions are also helping ensure peaceful and transparent exams.

He warned of strict action against any staff involved in paper leaks.

He said all steps must be taken to maintain transparency.

The government has appointed all board chairmen through a transparent process.

The minister also claimed a major improvement in government school results since 2013.
