Maulana Fazal slams KP government over corruption

PESHAWAR: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial General Council held a significant meeting under the chairmanship of Provincial Ameer Senator Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman, attended by members from across the province. The meeting also featured the participation and speech of JUI Central Ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The council vehemently condemned the provincial government, labelling it as corrupt and ineffective, stating, “There is no functioning government in the province.” The members expressed deep disappointment over the government’s handling of recent flood disasters, highlighting the public’s yearning for peace and stability.

Despite their criticism of the government, the council paid tribute to the district-level JUI organisations in Buner, Swat, Shangla, Swabi, and Mansehra for their exemplary efforts in flood relief activities. Special recognition was given to Mufti Fazal Ghafoor for his outstanding leadership in Buner, where significant projects such as housing reconstruction and employment restoration were successfully implemented.

The council expressed concern and regret over the government’s announced plans to privatise educational institutions and hospitals, and the abolition of powers from local bodies and administrators. It described these moves as anti-people and indicative of rampant corruption.

The meeting also reviewed the one-year performance of the Executive Council, with a detailed report presented by Alhaji Pervez Khattak at the Jamiat Business Forum. Condolences were extended to families affected by the floods, and a firm commitment was made to continue supporting the victims.

In parliamentary affairs, the council appreciated the role played by JUI members in the provincial assembly, particularly in relation to the Miners and Minerals Bill.

In a significant announcement, the council declared that the Mufti Mahmood Conference will be held in Dera Ismail Khan on October 16.

The meeting was also addressed by Provincial General Secretary Senator Maulana Atta-ul-Haq, Mufti Nasir Mahmood, and Engineer Zia-ur-Rehman.
