Northern Ireland: Ireland fast bowler Liam McCarthy endured a forgettable outing during the third T20I against the West Indies, conceding 81 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket. The match, played at Brady Cricket Club, saw McCarthy’s spell become the second-most expensive in T20 International history.
McCarthy was hit for 11 fours and five sixes, with his final over alone leaking 24 runs. His struggles began early as West Indies batsmen Shimron Hetmyer and debutant Casey Carty smashed 18 runs off his first over.
The record for the most expensive T20I spell remains with Gambia’s Moses Jobarte, who gave away 93 runs against Zimbabwe earlier this year. Before McCarthy, Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha held the unwanted distinction among Test-playing nations, having conceded 75 runs against Australia in 2019.
The costly performance overshadowed Ireland’s efforts as the West Indies posted a formidable total, leaving McCarthy with an unfortunate entry in the record books.
