BANNU: Government girls’ primary school badly damaged when unknown militants planted an explosive device in Takhti Khail area, jurisdiction of Baka Khail Police station, Bannu on Thursday.

Local police said that at the time of the incident, no person was present on school premises, and luckily, it caused no human casualties. The blast caused fear and panic among the local population, and police rushed to the site to assess the situation. Police said that an improvised explosive device was used in the attack, which exploded with a big bang. The militants have intensified their activities, as earlier to this, several schools, especially girls’ education institutions, have been targeted to discourage female education in the area. The area already faces a severe shortage of girls’ schools which resulting low literacy rate in girls’ education.

It is to mentioning here that dozens of schools have been torched or destroyed in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, North Waziristan, Dir and Swat. Female teachers and students have also been targeted in many attacks.
