Militants orchestrating attacks in Punjab from KP, says Azma Bokhari

LAHORE  Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari revealed that terrorists originating from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) border carried out yet another attack on a check post in DG Khan, marking the 31st such incident in the region.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Bokhari stated that 20-25 heavily armed militants assaulted the check post in the mountainous terrain, where infrastructure is lacking. Despite the terrorists’ use of night vision cameras, rocket launchers, and heavy weaponry, Punjab Police successfully repelled the attack, killing two assailants.

The minister emphasized that terrorists had targeted Punjab throughout Ramadan, aiming to destabilize the province. However, she credited the Punjab Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for thwarting multiple threats, including a major attack on Eid.

Bukhari highlighted the provincial government’s efforts to bolster security, mentioning that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had provided modern weapons, armored vehicles, and bunkers to police personnel, significantly improving their safety and operational capacity.

She warned that such attacks persistently originate from the KP border and acknowledged divine intervention in averting a larger tragedy. The Punjab CM remained actively engaged in monitoring the counter-terrorism operation, she added.
