PESHAWAR: The Indian government has blocked the YouTube channel of Pakhtun Digital within India, following the platform’s critical reporting that exposed the Modi administration’s false narratives.
Despite branding itself as the world’s largest democracy and a champion of free speech, the Modi-led government continues to silence dissenting voices, especially those from across the border. The move adds to growing concerns over India’s suppression of digital freedom and freedom of expression.
According to an email received by Pakhtun Digital from YouTube, the platform acted on a formal request from the Indian government, resulting in the complete restriction of all Pakhtun Digital videos within Indian territory.
This is not the first instance of digital censorship by India. Previously, the Modi government has blocked YouTube channels, X (formerly Twitter) accounts of Pakistani TV channels, politicians, journalists, and even Instagram profiles of celebrities—indicating a broader clampdown on content critical of the Indian state.
