Monsoon death toll reaches 221 across country: MDMA

Weather Alert: Storms Likely in Punjab, KP, GB, and Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reports the death toll from ongoing monsoon rains has risen to 221 nationwide, with 592 injured.

Five new fatalities occurred in the last 24 hours (2 men, 3 children), alongside 10 injuries. Punjab remains the worst-hit province with 135 deaths and 470 injuries. Other provincial casualties include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (40 dead, 69 injured), Sindh (22 dead, 40 injured), Balochistan (16 dead), Azad Kashmir (1 dead, 6 injured), and Islamabad (1 dead). Gilgit-Baltistan reported 3 injuries.

The rains have caused widespread destruction, collapsing 804 houses and killing 200 cattle. Most deaths resulted from house collapses, drowning, landslides, flash floods, electrocution, and lightning strikes.

A severe flash flood triggered by a cloudburst near Babusar Top caused significant landslides, closing roads at 14-15 locations. Stranded tourists have been evacuated to safety in Chilas. Authorities warn the situation remains critical.
