‘Moon not sighted, Ramazan to begin from Sunday’

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee P{eshawr

PESHAWAR: The Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on Friday that the Ramazan moon had not been sighted. The holy month will begin in Pakistan on Sunday.

The committee’s chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, announced this while addressing a press conference in Peshawar after the moon sighting procedure. “No authentic testimony of the moon being sighted was received; therefore, it was agreed with the consensus that first Ramazan will be on March 2,” he said.

Maulana Azad said it was the committee’s effort to further strengthen itself as a platform for “unity” and spread that message to households.

“Our effort in the future as well will be that we move forward together,” he said.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had convened its meeting this evening to sight the moon for Ramazan in Peshawar, whereas zonal bodies of the committee also met in Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi and Lahore.

India, however, not sighted moon in Lucknow and its committee announced fasting from March 02.

Saudi Arabia, however, announced to commence the fasting month from Saturday, March 1.
