More monsoon rains likely in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: PDMA

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast intermittent monsoon rains accompanied by thundershowers in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 28 to July 30.

According to PDMA, strong winds and thundershowers are expected in the following districts: Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, and Kurram.

There is also a risk of flooding in local rivers and canals in the Galiyat region, as well as in Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan from July 29 to 31. Additionally, landslides are possible in hilly areas, and urban flooding may occur in low-lying regions.

In response, the PDMA has instructed district administrations across all affected areas to take preventative measures. Rescue 1122 and other relief teams have been placed on high alert. Authorities are also advised to manage traffic effectively in sensitive locations and along highways while prioritising the cleaning of rivers and drainage systems to mitigate the risk of urban flooding.

Farmers have been urged to harvest their crops early and store them safely, while livestock keepers should take necessary precautions to protect their animals. Travellers using national and provincial highways are encouraged to exercise caution and consider alternative routes. The public is advised to seek shelter in safe locations during strong winds, hail, and thunderstorms.

The PDMA has instructed all agencies to communicate weather alerts in local languages, provide information about alternate routes, and ensure effective traffic management. The Emergency Operation Centre is fully operational, and the public can report any incidents by calling 1700.
