Motorway toll tax hike: Vehicles without M-Tags or low balance to pay 50% more from June 15

ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced a significant increase in toll tax for vehicles using the motorway network without M-tags or with insufficient balance. According to a detailed notification issued by the NHA, the revised toll charges will come into effect from June 15, 2025.

Under the new policy, vehicles without M-tags or those with a low balance will now be charged 50 per cent more toll tax. This marks a sharp rise from the previous surcharge of 25 per cent, which had been in place for non-compliant vehicles.

The NHA stated that this decision aims to streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion at toll plazas, and promote the use of M-tags for efficient toll collection.

Motorists are advised to ensure:

  • Their M-tags are properly installed and functioning.

  • Their account balance is sufficient before entering the motorway.

The NHA has also launched awareness campaigns to inform the public about the new toll structure and encourage timely compliance to avoid additional charges.

This step is part of broader efforts to digitise and modernise the motorway toll collection system across Pakistan.
