MPA claims massive corruption in Mardan solarisation scheme; secretary LG admits

Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Mardan, Abdul Salam, has claimed massive corruption in the Mardan Solarisation scheme, to which the secretary of local government, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, admitted and said action has been taken.
During discussions at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting held on Monday. The meeting was chaired by PAC chairman, Babar Saleem Swati.
MPA from the Mardan district on the occasion claimed that there was a large-scale corruption in the solarisation project in Mardan, and he had submitted several requests for inquiry, but to no avail.
He said, despite the release of the payments to the contractors, there were no solar panels in the many mosques.
While explaining the MPA claims, the secretary of local government admitted the shortcomings in the Mardan Solarisation project and said that the case is being investigated and recovery would be made from the contractor.
The secretary also revealed that a tehsil municipal officer (TMO) was allegedly involved in the scandal. However, the investigation against the involved parties is underway.
He said that the TMO Sarfaraz had also been transferred over the scheme’s corruption.

Rs 36 billion financial embezzlement reported from the Kohistan district, and NAB has started probing it. The issue was also taken up in the PAC meeting, and the committee chairman slammed the authorities for failure and alleged involvement in corruption.
