PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam has made serious financial allegations against the federal government, claiming that Shehbaz Sharif’s government has taken a debt of Rs 1830 billion in just one month.

In a statement, Muzammil Aslam raised the question that in such a situation, how can the government claim that the economy is improving? According to him, Pakistan’s total debt has now reached close to Rs 78,000 billion, which is an alarm bell for the country’s economy.

Muzammil Aslam said that when Shahbaz Sharif took over the government, the total debt of the country was Rs 43,500 billion, but now in three and a half years it has increased by Rs 34,500 billion. According to him, the current government has broken all previous records of indebting the country.

He further claimed that the country’s total debt has increased by 79 percent during the tenure of the current government. “The current government has taken 80 percent of the debt that Pakistan took in 75 years in just three years.”

The Finance Advisor criticized the government’s performance and said that despite taking such a huge amount of debt, not a single brick of development work has been laid in the country in three years. According to him, the current financial situation shows that the State Bank is having to buy dollars from the market.

Muzammil Aslam said that not only has investment stopped, but now no one is even ready to lend to the country. He said that the current government has not only weakened the economy but has also further oppressed the people under the burden of debt.
