ISLAMABAD: The nation is celebrating Pakistan Day today (Sunday) with a renewed pledge to strive for the country’s progress, stability, and unity.

The day marks the historic Lahore Resolution of March 23, 1940, which laid the foundation for a separate homeland for South Asian Muslims. The celebrations began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals.

Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr for the prosperity and solidarity of Pakistan. Due to Ramazan, the Pakistan Day parade is being held on a limited scale at Aiwan-e-Sadr, with President Asif Ali Zardari as the chief guest. Contingents from the Armed Forces are participating, while Pakistan Air Force fighter jets will conduct a flypast.

Later in the day, an investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr will see President Zardari conferring awards and medals to individuals for outstanding contributions in various fields.

To mark the occasion, ISPR released a special song, “Mere Mehboob Pakistan – Meri Jaan Pakistan,” with the message: “Ek Dil, Ek Jaan, Ek Pakistan” (One Heart, One Soul, One Pakistan).

In his Pakistan Day message, President Zardari urged the nation to rise above differences, reject negativity, and work together for a just, inclusive, and prosperous Pakistan. Acknowledging political, economic, and security challenges, he emphasised the need to navigate global complexities, pursue economic stability, and combat terrorism.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif extended his greetings, highlighting the nation’s immense potential to achieve economic prosperity and global recognition.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Service Chiefs also congratulated the nation on the 85th anniversary of Pakistan Day, calling it a defining moment in history.

They reaffirmed the commitment to democracy, resilience, and faith, emphasising that Pakistan continues to progress under the guiding principles of Islam and the sacrifices of its people.
