ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating Youm-e-Takbeer today, marking 27 years since it became the world’s seventh nuclear power and the first in the Islamic world. The day commemorates Pakistan’s response to India’s nuclear tests in May 1998, when it conducted its own tests in Chagai, Balochistan, restoring regional balance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a special message, hailed the nation’s resilience, linking the nuclear milestone to Pakistan’s recent victory in a military confrontation with India earlier this month. He praised former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for defying global pressure and sanctions to make Pakistan a nuclear state.
The Armed Forces also honored the occasion, reaffirming their commitment to defending the country. “Pakistan’s nuclear capability is a national trust,” their statement read.
A public holiday has been declared nationwide, with ceremonies and tributes to scientists, military leaders, and citizens who contributed to Pakistan’s nuclear program.
