National Security Council Meeting: Participants vowed to eliminate all forms of terrorism

 

ISLAMABAD: A high-level Parliamentary Committee meeting on National Security concluded after lasting for about six hours at the Parliament House here on Tuesday.

The meeting was chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, heads of the military leadership and intelligence agencies, federal ministers, chief ministers and governors attended.

The Army Chief gave a fifty-minute briefing in the meeting, while the DG of Military Operations also briefed the participants about the important points. However, opposition members and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the meeting.

Following the meeting, a statement of the crucial meeting was issued took a detailed review of the current security situation in the country and strongly condemned the recent terror wave in the country. The committee, while appreciating the bravery of the security forces and law enforcement agencies, reiterated its commitment to eliminate all forms of terrorism.

The statement emphasised the full use of state power and the adoption of a nationally agreed strategy against terrorism.

It was agreed to immediately implement the National Action Plan and the Resilience Strategy, eliminate terrorist networks and eliminate their logistical support.

The meeting expressed concern over the activities of terrorist networks through misuse of social media and stressed the need for measures to prevent them.

The committee, while appreciating the sacrifices of the security forces, said that the entire nation stands with the armed forces, police and intelligence agencies in the fight against terrorism.

The committee reiterated its resolve to take strict action against any individual or group supporting enemy elements, regretted the non-participation of opposition members, but announced that the consultation process would continue.
