ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Mian Nawaz Sharif, returned to Pakistan today after completing a two-week visit to the United Kingdom. The high-profile return comes at a politically sensitive time as Pakistan navigates complex domestic and international challenges, with Nawaz Sharif’s role expected to gain renewed visibility in the weeks ahead.
During his stay in London, the former prime minister underwent scheduled medical checkups, a routine part of his post-treatment health monitoring. In addition to his medical agenda, Nawaz Sharif remained politically engaged, meeting party members and allies, and attending a luncheon held in his honour, where he delivered a comprehensive speech outlining his views on governance, regional stability, and party unity.
Speaking to supporters and overseas party workers, Nawaz Sharif emphasised that there is no division between him and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his younger brother and current head of the government. “We are united in vision and action. There is no ‘me or him’ — we are one team working for the betterment of Pakistan,” he said, addressing speculation about internal party dynamics.
He went on to commend the performance of the PML-N-led coalition government, describing its efforts as serious, focused, and geared toward stabilising the economy and improving governance. “The government is delivering. Despite challenges, real steps are being taken for development, and these efforts will soon bear fruit,” he noted.
In a significant portion of his speech, Nawaz Sharif addressed the growing concerns surrounding regional security, particularly Iran. He voiced concern over recent aggression targeting the Islamic Republic, noting that Pakistan shares deep religious, cultural, and brotherly ties with Iran. “Our position is based on principles. We stand with peace, justice, and respect for sovereignty. Any form of aggression against Iran is deeply worrying,” he stated.
Turning to India and national defence, Nawaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace while affirming the nation’s readiness to defend itself against any threats. “We have always stood strong in the face of Indian aggression,” he said. “Our military strength is meant for defence, not offence — but let it be clear: we know how to protect our sovereignty and interests.”
He also paid tribute to the overseas PML-N workers, calling them the backbone of the party’s international support. “Our overseas members have stood with us through thick and thin. Their dedication, even from afar, strengthens our movement at home,” he said. “Today’s challenges demand unity — not just in words, but in purpose and resolve. Only together can we guide Pakistan toward prosperity.”
