ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik to discuss ongoing and upcoming challenges related to disaster management across the country.
During the call, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the recent rainfall patterns and their impact in various regions. In response, PM Shehbaz instructed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments, especially in northern areas, to ensure timely assistance and preventive measures.
He also emphasized enhancing communication with rescue services, district administrations, and provincial authorities to effectively manage the situation. Additionally, the prime minister directed that citizens be kept informed of weather developments through mobile text alerts.
Earlier, the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA had issued impact-based weather alerts for several regions, warning of potential heavy rain, urban flooding, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), and other related hazards over the next 24 to 48 hours.
