NDMA dispatches relief supplies to Afghan earthquake victims via Torkham border

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has dispatched humanitarian aid to Afghanistan for victims of the devastating earthquake that struck on the night of August 31, 2025.

According to official sources, the powerful quake resulted in the deaths of more than 2,000 people in Afghanistan.

On the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, NDMA sent 105 tons of relief goods, which included food packs, tents, blankets, mats, and essential medicines. The aid was transported via five 40-foot container trucks, which crossed into Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing.

The consignment was dispatched from NDMA’s central warehouse in Islamabad on September 3, and officially handed over to Afghan authorities at the Torkham border on September 4.

Federal Minister Amir Muqam served as the chief guest at th formal handover ceremony, which was held at the Torkham border. Pakistan’s Consul General in Jalalabad, Shafqatullah, and Afghanistan’s Consul General in Peshawar, Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir were also present on the occasion.

The Afghan Embassy expressed its gratitude to Pakistan for the timely assistance during this humanitarian crisis.

NDMA stated that it remains committed to supporting neighbouring countries in times of need and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Afghanistan during this difficult time.
