ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik has warned Pakistan to brace for more extreme weather events like cloudbursts, citing the recent devastation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as evidence of intensifying climate threats.
Malik revealed the KP disaster resulted from a weather system originating from the west – the same pattern that hit Gilgit-Baltistan two weeks prior. He directly linked rising disaster severity to citizens settling in high-risk low-lying areas, urging relocation to safer zones.
As an immediate precaution, authorities closed Margalla Hills hiking trails due to ongoing rain risks. Malik directed all agencies to implement preemptive measures, including plans to evacuate vulnerable populations before future emergencies.
