PESHAWAR: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent weather advisory forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in various parts of Pakistan. The warning applies to several regions, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The expected rain is likely to be accompanied by strong winds and possible hailstorms in certain areas. There is a significant risk of urban flooding in major cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, due to the high volume of rainfall. In the northern and hilly regions, especially in areas prone to soil erosion and poor drainage, there is also a danger of flash floods and landslides.
Authorities have been instructed to stay on high alert. The NDMA has directed local disaster management teams to ensure the cleaning of drainage systems, the readiness of emergency services, and the monitoring of vulnerable zones. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flood-prone areas, keep emergency supplies ready, and follow updates from official sources.
The NDMA emphasised the importance of early precautions to reduce the potential damage from this weather system. People living in at-risk areas are encouraged to remain in contact with local authorities and immediately report any emergencies. The public is advised to stay informed through the NDMA’s alert systems and local media, as the current weather pattern may intensify further during the monsoon season.
