The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory regarding the weather forecast from June 25 to July 1. During this period, rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected across most parts of the country.
The advisory highlights that strong winds and thunderstorms are likely in numerous areas, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, and Swat.
Rain with thunderstorms and lightning is also anticipated in several regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, such as Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Shigar, Diamer, Nagar, Ghizer, and Ghanche.
Due to these weather conditions, there is a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The NDMA warns that weak trees, mud walls, and fragile structures may sustain damage during strong winds and storms. It is advised to avoid these structures, as well as electricity poles and billboards, during such weather events.
Citizens are also urged to park their vehicles under protective shelters or in safe locations. Visibility is expected to decrease during thunderstorms, which could increase the risk of accidents, so caution is advised.
The NDMA has instructed all relevant agencies to implement proactive measures in preparation for any potential emergencies. Additionally, the public is encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App to stay informed about weather conditions and potential hazards.
