NEC approves Rs1,000 billion federal development budget

The National Economic Council has approved a federal development budget of Rs 1,000 billion for the next fiscal year. The meeting has set a target for the growth rate of the gross national product (GDP) at 4.2 per cent, while the annual export target has also been approved at $ 35 billion.
An important meeting of the National Economic Council was held at the Prime Minister’s House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which the economic targets for the next fiscal year 2025-26 were approved.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The meeting reviewed the National Development Plan, PSDP, macroeconomic targets, and consultations were held regarding the approval of the economic growth rate, agriculture, industry, and services sector targets for the new fiscal year.
According to Planning Commission sources, the National Economic Council approved a federal development budget of Rs 1,000 billion, while the NEC approved a 4.2 per cent GDP growth target for the next fiscal year.
The meeting approved a package of Rs 100 billion instead of Rs 120 billion for N-25 in Balochistan, and approved setting an export target of $ 35 billion.

The federal government has allocated Rs 147 billion for the Ministry of Water Resources, Rs 20 billion for the Dasu Hydropower Project, Rs 35 billion for Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Rs 35.7 billion for Mohmand Dam and Rs 8.2 billion for Karachi Bulk Water Supply. Rs 9.4 billion has been allocated for Karachi’s K-4 project.
500 million for SIFC, 4.7 billion for Science and Technology, 4 billion for SPARCO, and 50 billion for Parliamentarian Schemes. A budget of Rs 2.7 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Climate Change.
302 billion for the National Highway Authority, 11.4 billion for the DG Khan N-55 project, 7 billion for the Hoshab-Khuzdar M-8 section, 40 billion each for Khuzdar-Kuchlak, Karachi-Quetta and Kuchlak-Chaman sections, while Rs 30 billion has been allocated for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway.
11.5 billion for the Ministry of Defence, 4 billion for New Gwadar Airport, 19.2 billion for education, 9 billion for Danish schools in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, 4.3 billion for the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Program, and 16.2 billion for special areas and provinces.
Only Rs550 million has been allocated for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs47.4 billion for Sindh development projects, Rs20 billion for flood-affected areas, Rs2.5 billion for Karachi Industrial Area roads, Rs4 billion for Sindh Coastal Highway, Rs6.6 billion for Nawabshah-Ranipur Highway, Sanghar N-5, and Rs93 billion for Balochistan.

70.4 billion for merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs45 billion for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Rs37 billion for Gilgit-Baltistan, Rs45 billion for funding 140 higher education projects, Rs13.5 billion for the Ministry of IT, Rs4 billion for Karachi IT Park, and Rs5 billion for Islamabad Technology Park.

Rs11 billion has been allocated for 16 projects of the Ministry of Interior, Rs3 billion for Safe City Islamabad, Rs2.5 billion for NADRA Digital Economy Project, Rs2 billion for Islamabad Development Package, Rs1.1 billion for H-16 Model Jail, Rs1.7 billion for the Ministry of Law, Rs1.1 billion for G-10 Courts Facilitation Center, Rs3.3 billion for the Ministry of Maritime, and Rs2 billion for Gadani Shipbreaking Industry.
15.3 billion for health projects, Rs5 billion for Quaid-e-Azam Health Tower at Jinnah Medical Complex Karachi, Rs4.7 billion for Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Rs12.42 billion for the Ministry of Planning, and Rs8 billion for flood-hit Balochistan.
Rs 104 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Energy, Rs 16 billion for the improvement of NTDC, Rs 16 billion for the Dasu transmission line, and Rs 5 billion for the Rahim Yar Khan-Bahawalpur 220 kV line.
A total of Rs 24 billion has been allocated for the railways, including Rs 9.3 billion for the Tharkol railway line and Rs 7 billion for the purchase of railway cargo, bogies and coaches.
Rs 104 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Energy, and Rs 16 billion for the improvement of the NTDC system.
