PESHAWAR: Inspector-General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed on Sunday announced that the network behind the recent attacks on Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak and Bannu Cantt has been traced.
Speaking to the media, IG Hameed said that investigators had gathered solid evidence in both cases. However, he refrained from disclosing details, citing concerns that revealing information might alert the suspects and prompt them to flee. He confirmed that several individuals have been taken into custody for questioning.
The police chief added that further details would be shared once the investigations are complete.
Highlighting recent gains in security efforts, IG Hameed noted a decline in terrorist incidents over the past 15 days, attributing it to proactive policing measures, including house-to-house mapping. He added that undocumented residents are being repatriated via Torkham.
The suicide bombing at Darul Uloom Haqqania claimed the lives of JUI-S leader Maulana Hamid ul-Haq and five others. In a separate attack on Bannu Cantt, 16 terrorists were killed by security forces, while six security personnel were martyred during the operation.
