TANK: The National Institute of Health’s Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Control has confirmed a new polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking the 11th infection in the province this year. The latest victim is a 10-month-old child from Union Council Molazai in Tank district.

This development brings Pakistan’s total polio cases for the year to 18, with 11 cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan. The affected districts in KP include Bannu (3 cases), Tank (2), Lakki Marwat (2), North Waziristan (2), Torghar (1), and Dera Ismail Khan (1).

Health authorities have urgently appealed to parents to ensure timely polio vaccination for their children, emphasizing that immunization remains the only effective defense against the crippling disease. The recent cases highlight ongoing challenges in Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio, particularly in high-risk regions.
