ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced new rates, increasing the toll tax on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2).
According to the NHA, these new rates will be effective from August 26, 2025, to August 25, 2026. The new rates have been set at Rs 1,330 for cars, jeeps and taxis, which works out at Rs 3.72 per kilometre. The toll tax for wagons is Rs 2,240, which works out at Rs 6.24 per kilometre, while buses will be charged Rs 3,130, which works out at Rs 8.73 per kilometre.
The toll tax for two-axle trucks is Rs 4,460, for three-axle trucks it is Rs 5,800, and for articulated trucks it is Rs 7,460. According to an official statement issued on Monday, the increase is a continuation of the 10 per cent annual increase that is being made under the concession agreement signed with Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), on April 23, 2014.
The agreement was made on a belt-operate-transfer model, according to which the toll tax is mandatory to be increased every year from the second operational year. This new increase in toll rates will directly impact the general commuters and those associated with the transport sector.
The increase in the toll tax would badly affect the common citizens, as most of the traders and business frequently travels to Lahore for business trips, this significant increase of 10% would increase the fares between Lahore and Islamabad and Peshawar to Lahore.
