PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam has clarified that there is no such clause in the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mines and Minerals Bill under which the province’s mineral resources are being handed over to the federation.
Law Minister Aftab Alam discussed the Mines and Minerals Bill and the federal government’s policy regarding the return of Afghan nationals, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s position and the progress in the Pak-Afghan talks. He said that there is no clause in the proposed Mines and Minerals Act to give resources to anyone else’The Law Minister openly defended the Mines and Minerals Bill and said that the government wants to bring about improvements in the sector for which the bill has been brought. Aftab Alam said that most people have not even read the bill and are propagating and opposing it on their own. He asked to be told where in the bill it is written or which clause is there in which resources are being given to the federation.
The Law Minister said that the members of the assembly were briefed on the bill and their suggestions were being considered by the department. He said that the members of the assembly had submitted their suggestions in writing. He said that it was not wrong for the federation to contact the province regarding the legalization. And the law department contacts in this regard. He made it clear that his government would protect the rights of the province and the right of resources also belongs to the people of the province. He said that the bill is being presented in a wrong way and is being propagated among the public, while the reality is the opposite. He said that amendments will be made wherever necessary. He expressed regret that most people have not studied the bill and are opposing it without information just for political point scoring.
